Coffee. Hmm. I like to have coffee in the morning and in the afternoons. I'm not much of a coffee drinker in the evenings. Every morning my husband and I brew a full pot of coffee. We almost always have leftovers. In the summer I save the coffee and have iced coffee in the afternoon. If I make the coffee it might be regular flavor or a flavored coffee called Jamaican me Crazy. If it's my husband it's always plain.
If for some reason we don't make coffee at home it always feels strange. Like something is missing. almost incomplete somehow.
We will usually stop somewhere and get coffee at Starbucks or McDonald's or if we are going out for breakfast we will get coffee there. I am kind of picky about coffee. I do not like a lot of coffees. For example I do not like the regular coffee from McDonald's, Burger King or Bojangles. I do like the coffee drinks from McDonald's but I read somewhere that they don't clean their machine very well so I don't drink it there anymore.
As for a replacement, if we are in a restaurant I will often get unsweetened iced tea instead of coffee. But if we are home I will not have something different.
I don't feel that way about anything else in my life. I'm very flexible in most things. .
Most days I have 2 or 3 cups of coffee, unless I get it out, then it's usually one if it's to go but if at a restaurant I will refill it as often as possible. At home I drink coffee in our living room. I sit on one end of our sectional(it is he chaise part) and put my coffee on the table next to me. My husband refills my cup almost always. It's one of the ways he spoils me. I drink coffee mostly as a habit. I don't feel like it wakes me up or anything, it's just  the way we always do it. The TV is always on and while my husband is watching TV I am usually on the computer or my phone checking my emails and Facebook.  I often forget to even drink my coffee. Many many times my husband will ask if I am ready for a refill and I realize I haven't even started to drink the first cup.
A job description?  That's a hard one. OK here goes: Looking for a reliable early riser, someone willing to show up on a moments notice. Must be willing to stick around until no longer needed. We are looking for someone who is completely flexible. The job is 7 days a week and may include overtime. Must be willing to come in afternoons if needed. Pay is dependent upon your experience.
Coffee in the mornings is comforting. Just because it is a habit doesn't mean it isn't missed. Iced coffee is refreshing in the afternoons, especially in the hot summer months.
I really don't see much difference in a day without coffee and a day with it.

This is what I think Maxwell House kind of people are: They are just ordinary people doing ordinary things. This is Mike and Cindy. They are Republicans who think George Bush was the bomb. They spend their weekends flea marketing and searching for that one piece that they can brag about. They have many friends but only get together with them during football season.

And this is a Dunkin Donuts kinda person, a working Mom. Her name is Norma and she is a busy busy woman. She loves the drive-thru. Norma is a democrat and supports Hillary Clinton. She thinks the fact that she can vote for a woman is more important than the substance of the candidate. She is in a Mommies and me class and does yoga at the gym twice a week.

This is Ashley. She is a loyal Starbucks customer. She is a democrat who supports Bernie Sanders. She thinks the government should take care of everyone. While she likes what she hears him say she doesn't bother investigating the facts. She is a member of the masses and doesn't understand why anyone would ever own a gun, or would support a Republican. Ashley likes to surf the web, she is a vegan who food shames everyone around her. She has a child who has to vie for her attention, she haunts Facebook.

This is Roy and Sarah. They are elderly Folgers users. They still remember the "olden days" when America was great. They are staunch Republicans who are disappointed that Jeb Bush isn't still in the presidential race. They don't have any use for the younger generation and see them as whiners who don't  know what hard work is. Roy and Sarah hang out with their siblings playing card games on Friday evening and go to church every Sunday.

I respect the opinion of all of them. Do I think they are all right? Absolutely not. Ashley and Norma are fools as far as I see and the other 2 couples are so set in their ways they don't give room for progress.

  1. Hi Theresa,

Thank you for this excellent post. Your detailed responses and all of the images you shared are appreciated. You are doing a great job with your blog.

You mention "I really don't see much difference in a day without coffee and a day with it." --yet you say that if you don't have coffee, it feels as if something is missing? Will you please say more about this feeling?

On the days in the summer when you skip coffee in the morning and have iced coffee in the afternoon, how does that change the experience of your morning? Are you thinking about coffee and it's absence in the morning? Are you looking ahead and forward to the iced coffee?

When you have the iced coffee, where are you, what prompts you to know that it's time of the coffee, what does the coffee do for you (job description). Would love your thoughts related to this in Question 2 for your iced coffee.

    Thanks for your time!

    1. I guess because it has become such a habit that it just feels strange when I don't have it. I don't miss it throughout the day, just a strange feeling in the morning not to drink it.
Most summer days I still drink coffee in the mornings. I will drink the iced coffee in addition to the morning brew. I do brew extra strong coffee if we are expecting a heat wave and keep it in the fridge. I do look forward to the iced coffee. it just makes something different to switch up the day from my usual iced tea or soda.
I usually have the iced coffee on a whim. There have been many times when I have brewed it and it stays in the fridge until it's stale. So it's just a craving thing I guess. Iced coffee is so refreshing, its sweet and a caffeine boost at the same time.

  2. Also, love the personas you created for Question 4. If you had to pick one person who you relate to the most, who would it be and why? Which do you not relate to and why? Please explain.

    1. I think I am most like Mike and Cindy. I am 50 years old, I am conservative, and I love flea marketing. LOL. I do not relate to Ashley. She seems like someone who is more involved with herself than what reality is.

  3. Hi Theresa,

It seems from your descriptions of your characters that you view Maxwell House and Folgers drinkers to be more set in their ways. I'm wondering, are there certain aspects of your life where you are set in your ways? And, contrary to this, are there aspects of your life where you would like to see more progress or change?

    Thank you for your time!

    1. No, I am really a pretty flexible easy going kind of person. The only thing I am adamant about is everyone putting the seat down. Other than that I am willing to change if need be. As for the progress, I consider myself to be ever evolving.
